Directions to Kokohuia Lodge Omapere
From Auckland: Head north up State Highway 1 until you get to the Brynderwyns ( 1 1/4 hours drive north of Auckland approximately) where you make a left turn onto State Highway 12 towards Dargaville. Drive through Dargaville and out the other side. Take a right hand turn when you see a signpost that says Opononi and Ohaeawai. If you keep on this road, you’ll pass through the Waipoua Forest (where Tane Mahuta, the famous tree is) and you will eventually get to the Hokianga Harbour. The first town is Omapere. Drive along the main road through Omapere, past the Copthorne Hotel (on the left) and past the G.A.S. petrol station (on the left). Carry on for a short distance and you’ll see the Volunteer Fire Station (on the right). The next turn-off to the right is our road – Kokohuia Road. We’re a fraction over 1km up Kokohuia Road on the left. Drive past our house, which has a phoenix palm and the number ‘101’ at the gate. The parking deck for Kokohuia Lodge is 50m past this on the left. Driving time is around 3 1/4 hours.

From Kerikeri township: Drive west out of town until reach the roundabout. Take the first exit (south) and drive through Bulls Gorge on State Highway 10. Carry on until you get to Puketona Junction and turn right into Te Ahu Ahu Road. Travel the complete length of this road, until you reach State Highway 1, where you turn right. Keep following State Highway 1 until you reach Ohaeawai. When you reach Ohaeawai, keep going straight ahead (don’t turn right to stay on SH1). The road at this point becomes State Highway 12. Keep on State Highway 12 until you get to Opononi, which runs into Omapere. Kokohuia Road is the 3rd street on the left after Opononi. If you drive past the Volunteer Fire Brigade, you’ve gone 50m past our intersection. See above for directions to Kokohuia Lodge on Kokohuia Road. Driving time from Kerikeri to Kokohuia Lodge is approximately 1hour 10 mins.

From Kerikeri Airport:
As you drive out of the airport, turn right and follow the road until you reach State Highway 1, where you turn left. Carry on down SH1, past Lake Omapere, until you reach the junction of Te Pua Road (which has a signpost saying Waimate North). Turn right and follow Te Pua Road all the way until you meet State Highway 12 on the outskirts of Kaikohe. Turn right and drive through Kaikohe. Stay on SH12 until you get to Opononi, which runs into Omapere. Kokohuia Road is the 3rd Street on the left after Opononi. See above for directions to Kokohuia Lodge on Kokohuia Road. From The Bay of Islands (Paihia)
Drive west out of Paihia along Puketona Road until you reach Puketona Junction, where you turn right and then immediately left into Te Ahu Ahu Road. Travel the complete length of this road, until you reach State Highway 1, where you turn right. Keep following State Highway 1 until you reach Ohaeawai. When you reach Ohaeawai, keep going straight ahead (don’t turn right to stay on SH1). The road at this point becomes State Highway 12. Keep on State Highway 12 until you get to Opononi, which runs into Omapere. Kokohuia Road is the 3rd street on the left after Opononi.
